Blackpool in the 1860s

Photographs of Blackpool in the 1860s - click on the links to the right.

-------------------------------------------
These photos were produced by Helmut Petschler and his wife (The Manchester Photographic Company) and date from c1866-69.

--------------------------
I have done some research using Census records:
The photographer, Helmut Petschler was born in Germany in 1832 and emigrated to England where he married an English woman, Alice. They were both photographers and set up the Manchester Photographic Company.
In1861 they were living at Lime Grove, Ardwick, Gorton, with their daughter Millicent (born 1859 in Longsight). Their second daughter, Elise was born Sept 1867, in Fallowfield.
Helmut died before 1871 and his widow is listed as a photographer.
In the 1881 census her occupation was dressmaker.
