Headroomgate Prep School
Founded 1928 HEADROOMGATE PREPARATORY SCHOOL FOR BOYS,
Headroomgate Rd. Principal, Miss M.Evans.
In 1928, a Mrs. Soper set up a school in the Parish Rooms,
St.Anne's. At that time it had just 5 pupils. At the end of WWII
the school had moved into a Miss Coventry’s house on the corner
of Oxford & Headroomgate Roads. Mrs. Sopers daughter took over
the running of the school in 1959 and in 1963 a nursery
department opened. Mrs. Betty Soper retired in 1986 and the
school closed. About 140 pupils were attending the school in the
last term.

Headroomgate Preparatory School.
"I thought Mrs Betty Soper was Mrs Evans daughter. Mrs Evans was
the headmistress and then Mrs Soper took up the position.
Husband Mr Evans used to make the best home made ice creams!
It's funny how there were so many private preparatory schools in
the 1950s and so few today - I remember Peter Pan School which
was in the vicinity of The Boulevard and a school on St David's
Rd North with only about 5 pupils as well as Gwydr House and
Ardrossan. Interesting site, I had not realised St Annes had so
many education establishments."
