Ribble Bridge 1927

BRIDGING THE RIBBLE

The question of bridging the Ribble from Freckleton to Hesketh Bank has often been suggested, and the proposal has been brought forward again with the object of relieving the exceptionally heavy road traffic through- Preston. A bridge across the Ribble, at Freckleton, would open up a more direct route to Wigan, Southport and Liverpool, besides offering an alternative route to Manchester and the south. The distance to Southport would be shortened by 12 miles. If the proposal were carried out it would enormously increase the traffic through Lytham St. Annes. A previous proposal was to erect a conveyor bridge.
