Richard Ansdell (1815-1885).
The artist stayed in Lytham during the early 1850s and about 1859 had a summer residence "Starr Hills" built amongst the dunes behind the large seafront villas.

Demolition of cottages

Richard Ansdell sold "Starr Hills" a few years later after the peace and tranquillity of the area was destroyed by the laying of the Blackpool & Lytham Railway which passed to the rear of the house.

"Ansdell's Halt" was a stopping point on this new railway and as Lytham Estate started to build houses in the area the district acquired the name "Ansdell".
