Lytham St.Annes History |
Ice would have been taken from Curtains Pond in the winter and placed in the Ice House. The Ice House consisted of a pit with steps down through a door. How it drained I am not sure. The ceiling is probably domed using bricks. Over this was a layer of earth and trees or shrubs were planted to provide shade. In the early 1800s there was a circular path to the summit which provided good views across the Fylde. |

A sketch showing the entrance to the ice house, Lytham Hall. It has been covered by earth and shrubs for many years. When in use the door would have been insulated with straw. |
