The date "1899" carved into a beam at St.Annes Pier Entrance was uncovered recently (March 2008) after being hidden since 1963. The old 1960s canopy was replaced with one in the more fitting Victorian-style. The pier opened in 1883 and the mock-tudor entrance was built in 1899.
